University of Toledo Tutoring Center

University of Toledo Tutoring CenterThe University of Toledo Tutoring Center, the only high-level bilingual education center in the state of Ohio, is a leader in providing state-of-the-art learning opportunities for children from birth to five years old. Our tutoring programs are designed to help all students from the elementary school age through high school. We are one of the only universities to provide both language arts and math tutoring, and we offer opportunities for American Sign Language instruction in a private setting. In addition, we offer a variety of other special programs that are designed to help children achieve academic success. Our tutoring programs are designed to help all students in all grades. Our student body is diverse. Our students come from across the country and the world. Many have learning disabilities or are immigrants, some have grown up in unstable circumstances, some have lived in foreign countries, some have been victims of domestic violence, some com e from different cultures and many are separated from their families. They come from diverse religious backgrounds, many speak no English, some come from low-income homes and others are students at private schools. Our primary goal is to provide excellent language arts and math tutoring to the students who would be our first priority when they enter the university. Our approach is to encourage and support them in every way possible, while helping them to realize their full potential and reach their full academic potential. Our program for language arts is known as GCEAL, for General Education Accelerated Learning for Students with Disabilities. We offer an intensive eight-week curriculum specifically designed for students with language and/or learning disabilities. This program has become a critical success, helping students to excel in both language arts and math, and to improve their skills and knowledge, and to develop their self-esteem.Our math program is the GCEAM, for General Ed ucation Enriched Mathematics for Students with Disabilities. Our program is similar to GCEAL, with two additional enrichment programs. These include three-day camps for middle school students, four day camps for high school students, and a special-needs math program. We offer comprehensive instruction for children of all ages. We combine the innovative techniques of child psychology with the instruction of art and music to create an environment where children learn, play, make new friends, build creative thinking and problem solving skills, and seek out their talents. We offer a variety of activities that help students learn and develop at their own pace.As a university of Toledo, our educational opportunities are available to anyone who is interested in obtaining their education. There are many options available to individuals who have learning disabilities. Because we are a public institution, we have a strict admissions policy and tuition policy, but we do welcome any applicant wh o has a passion for learning and a commitment to achievement.
